Program Overview:

 

The USGBC-CA's Green Building Corps (GBC) Winter 2026 Training Cohort is a structured training program designed to provide up to twenty-five individuals seeking career opportunities and growth to participate in industry-recognized training and certificates, gain valuable experience, and have exposure to relationship-building in the green building sector. 

The Winter 2026 GBC Training Cohort will participate in structured training on relevant and cutting-edge green building industry topics, including energy modeling and benchmarking, while building foundational knowledge of sustainability, renewable energy, and energy efficiency. Training will be offered live virtual and on-demand. Cohorts will receive professional development and mentorship.

Training activities will take place throughout the month of February and are estimated at 5 hours per week.  Trainees who successfully complete coursework are eligible to apply for a Green Building Corps internship beginning in April 2026 (applications to open in February/March). 

Program Objectives:

Upon completion of the Green Building Corps Training Program, participants will: 

  • Obtain a foundational understanding CA’s current state of sustainability 
  • Earn certificates in Foundations of Green Building and Building Performance Fundamentals
  • Understand how to benchmark building energy use and relevant platforms
  • Learn about energy modeling best practices
  • Access and participate in interest-driven training and career development opportunities 
 

Program Structure:

  • Commitment: 1 month training term 
  • Time Commitment: Five hours per week.
  • Certification: Certificate of completion upon program conclusion.

Admission Requirements:

  • Must be residing in the state of California during the term of training. 
  • Demonstrate a passion for sustainability and community resilience.
  • 18 years of age or older and have completed 4 years of high school or its equivalent.
  • Bilingual proficiency is not required but is considered a plus.
  • Possess soft skills in basic business communication and office etiquette.
  • Familiarity with virtual platforms and software such as Gsuite, Slack, Zoom, Microsoft Office, Canva, Learning Management Software, and Customer Relationship Management Software.
